Ruby, registered name Magic Touch, was born in 1995 and was retired to Ryerss Farm in May 2011. She is a 16 hands high chestnut thoroughbred mare. Her sire was the famous 1986 Kentucky Derby winner, Ferdinand, who earned over $3 million during his career. Ruby earned over $100,000 during her own racing career. That career ended after a leg injury, but with a year of rest she recovered to start a new career in show jumping and barrel racing. She was also a broodmare for 3 years. Later, she fell into the wrong hands and suffered from extreme neglect. When she arrived at Ryerss from a rescue she was in very poor health. Thanks to good food and loving care from staff and volunteers, her coat shines and she never has to worry about being neglected again.
