As the final golden days of summer drift by, there's no better place to slow down and savor the moment than here at Ryerss Farm for Aged Equines. Tucked among the rolling hills of Chester County, our pastures are quiet, our horses content, and our gates open to all seeking a peaceful pause from the rush of everyday life.
With more than 70 retired horses living out their golden years on our farm, every visit is a chance to witness the quiet magic of second chances. Whether you’re a lifelong horse lover or simply searching for a tranquil afternoon, Ryerss Farm is where time seems to stand still, and healing comes on four hooves.
The farm is free to visit. Moments of peace and connection should be available to everyone.
Celebrate National Nonprofit Day with Us
August 17th is National Nonprofit Day, a time to recognize and support the organizations that serve our communities with compassion and care. At Ryerss Farm, we’re proud to be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides lifelong sanctuary to aged, abused, and injured horses. The horses at Ryerss are never worked, sent to auction, or used for experiments. They simply spend their days grazing and enjoying life with their friends, as part of the herd.
Your visits, donations, sponsorships, and volunteer hours help make this possible. This National Nonprofit Day, we invite you to honor the cause by spending time with our residents, learning about our mission, or making a gift that supports their care. Every act of kindness makes a lasting difference.
Soak in the Serenity of Late Summer
August and early September are especially beautiful on the farm. The light softens, the air turns gentle, and our beloved residents enjoy long, lazy afternoons grazing beneath a canopy of sun and sky.
Visitors often tell us that stepping onto the farm feels like entering another world, where the soft swish of a tail or the nuzzle of a curious muzzle reminds us to breathe deeply, move slowly, and live kindly.
So pack a picnic, grab your camera, or just bring yourself. Our self-guided walking tours are open daily, rain or shine. Stroll the pastures, meet our horses, and read their stories posted along the way. Each is a testament to resilience, compassion, and the power of a safe landing.
Get to Know Our Gentle Residents

Every horse at Ryerss Farm has earned their rest, and each has a story to tell. We invite you to take your time, stroll the pastures, and spend time with our residents. You can read each horse’s biography on our website, and while you’re visiting, be sure to stop by the gift shop to pick up treats they’ll love. Feeding time is always a favorite for both horses and humans!
You may find a favorite to sponsor through our Horse Sponsorship Program, a meaningful way to be part of their next chapter. For only $500 a year, you can sponsor one of our residents, covering their essential care and supplies.
Make Your Visit Even More Meaningful
Looking to do more than just visit? There are so many ways to deepen your connection and support our mission.
August is an excellent time to give back, and we welcome volunteers with open arms! Our friendly gift shop is a great place to start. Volunteers help guests feel at home, share the history and heart of the farm, and assist visitors in finding meaningful keepsakes. Your time directly supports the care of our residents and helps keep our mission thriving.
Volunteering is also a chance to spend quality time on the farm, greeting guests, helping at events, or simply soaking in the peace of a pasture-side moment with one of our four-legged friends.
Other Ways to Give
Not local or short on time? You can still make a difference. Here’s how:
Make a Donation: You can sponsor a resident, donate a pedicure or memory plate, sponsor a dental visit, or donate to sustain the farm.
Shop our Wish Lists: Gift essentials from our Amazon and Chewy wish lists.
Plan Your Visit
We’re open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., year-round, free of charge. Self-guided tours of our historic grounds require no reservations. Visit our Contact Page for directions and details.
Remember to stop by our gift shop while you’re here. Every purchase helps fund the care of our beloved residents.
Visiting with a Group?
If you plan to bring a group of 10 or more individuals, please schedule your visit in advance. Because Ryerss Farm is primarily volunteer-run, we need time to coordinate staff and ensure your group has the best experience possible.

Here’s what to know:
Guided tours are available for $5.00 per person, regardless of age. Tours last approximately 45 minutes to one hour.
Unguided groups of 10 or more will be charged $1.00 per person.
Please provide at least one week’s notice when booking. To schedule your visit, call our office at 610-469-0533.
All ages are welcome, but children must be supervised at all times. There is no running or shouting in the barn for everyone's safety.
We’re excited to welcome your group and share the mission and magic of Ryerss Farm with you.
Say Goodbye to Summer, Say Hello to Peace
Before the pace of fall picks up and the sweaters come out of storage, take a quiet moment to visit Ryerss Farm. Wander our historic grounds. Spend time with our wise and wonderful residents. And let the stillness of the season settle in your heart.
At Ryerss Farm, a walk in the pasture is never just a walk; it’s a reminder that aging is something to be honored, kindness is always in season, and every life deserves to be cherished.
We hope to see you soon!
