Donations and Sponsorship Options at Ryerss

Updated: Apr 4, 2022

At Ryerss Farm for Aged Equines, we are a non-profit charitable organization, so we receive no government funding. Ryerss Farm relies on the generous support of caring individuals and groups. To help defray costs, we grow our own grain, hay, and straw onsite. Each resident needs food, shelter, hoof, dental, and medical care. All this, combined with special medications required by some of our residents, quickly adds up. Donations are gratefully accepted to help subsidize the costs of hoof care (“pedicure”), dental visits and more.

Horse Pedicure

Horse Pedicure

Proper hoof care is a very important element to ensure a long and healthy life. Hooves need to be picked to keep out rocks and other harmful debris. In addition, all horses need their hooves trimmed every 6 to 8 weeks. Hooves must be trimmed by an expert to ensure proper length, eliminate chance of infection, and balance the horse’s natural stance. If done incorrectly, the horse could potentially become disabled. Any horse performing hard work or walking on hard surfaces will also need horseshoes. Donations can be made for a “pedicure” so that every aged equine has healthy hooves!

Dental Visit

Dental Visit

Routine dental care is very important for horses to ensure proper digestion, performance, and overall well-being. A diet of grazing and hay wears down the enamel of the teeth. Horses’ lower teeth are closer together than the upper teeth, which makes chewing a sideways motion. As a result, sharp points will form along the side of the teeth. During routine dental appointments, these sharp points must be filed down to prevent ulcers or damage of the cheeks and tongue. Dental check-ups are also essential to look for any gum diseases or other issues. Donations can be made to provide our residents with dental care, which provides for their overall comfort and health.

Sponsor a Horse for One Year

Sponsor a horse at Ryerss! This is a great opportunity for individuals, families, and groups to help a horse for $500 a year. You can stop by the farm and choose a horse you would like to sponsor! (We are open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm). To get a sneak peek, you can check out the residents on our website. Once you meet our delightful horses, you will fall in love.

Many of our horses currently have at least one sponsor, and we are thankful for their support! Keep in mind that all of the horses can have multiple sponsors. Each horse resident gets equitable care across the board whether they have 0 sponsors or 5. However, a sponsor has an opportunity to build a meaningful relationship with their chosen resident. It is so beautiful to see the bond between a horse and human, especially as the residents enjoy their retirement life. All sponsors are able to make private appointments during regular visiting hours to spend one on one time with their horse. During these appointments, sponsors groom or just spend quality time with their selection. We have two new residents who are in need of sponsors, Cat and Crosby.

A sponsorship form is available here with more information on this program. Once you complete the form, you may send the form to Ryerss Farm along with your payment or pay by credit card.

Other Donations

Other forms of donation include stall endowments, benches, memory plates, greener pastures plates, and memory board plates. These options are a great way to show support for our animals, and love for those (animal and human) who have passed on.
